I had a bereavement in the family last week. After my timesheet was filled out and submitted by me it had 24 hours worked and 16 hours for bereavement. They did not pay bereavement as they do not consider a grandparent as immediate family. So instead they took my vacation time without my permission. 32 hours of vacation time because they felt that I had not truly worked the 20 hours. After arguing they said they would credit me back the other hours worked, but they are still using vacation time. I have sick time that could have been used, but they took the vacation from me. I think this is illegal. Does anyone know if this is wrong? I am a consulting engineer in NY and this company treats most of it's workers the same way. Ok, so I posted a question about my neighbor and how she didnt take care of her dog, left it alone all the time and it woke me and my kids up throughout the night. I called the dog warden and he came and warned them to take better care of their dog. They are now doing such, but my landlord got made at me for calling the warden and gave me thirty days to vacate after yrs of living at my apartment.(We also got into a huge fight) I have tried over and over again to get legal advice, can anyone give me any numbers that I can call? I live in NY State. I have consulted an attorney, but he was very brief and its a small matter as far as he was concerned, told me to use security as last months rent and move. Hi, First time on this, giving myself and my mother an Ulcer, I am 17 years old, i was with a friend driving on the Northern State, getting off at babylon and went a little faster than expected down the ramp and skidded onto the grass/curb and then as i got onto the SAG and kept driving i incidentally "cut off" a DEA agent. Now i have a court date on July 9, i got 2 tickets, one for reckless driving and one for "unreasonable speed" i think i can get the unreasonable speed one dropped but should i consult a lawyer for this? Is it necesary? and what should i expect? this is my first offense and i have no record and i can provide recomendation letters from my principal and student advisor. I'm a laid off professional in my early 40s. I very close to being accepted into a "career change" program in a neighboring state. The program involves a few months of intense daily training, then you usually get a job (no guarantee, but they have a very good placement record). It is far away enough to involve relocating. I am currently on partial unemployment while doing p/t consulting. The consulting would end if/when I join this program as I would not have time for it (location wouldn't matter as I do most of the consulting virtually). I had a couple of questions that I hope someone out there knows: 1) Does the Federal government offer any grants to help pay for these programs and for your living expenses during that time. 2) Would I lose my unemployment compensation? 3) Would my state offer any grants to help pay for the career training? Or would they require it to occur in the same state? My current state is NY and I have tried to contact them about this but they are very bureaucratic and overwhelmed and their website wasn't clear on it. Rest of 3 months I worked in NY where i lived for that duration . BUT in my W2's column 15 it shown 2 states , NY & NJ . NY wadges says 20638 NJ wadges says 7500 . I asked my employer that I only earned TOTAL $20638 so why in state its 20638 + 7500 then he told me that for NY we have to put total income we earned even out of state . Even If I had NJ income it should included in total wadges column 1 which will come around $20638 + 7500 ~ 28k. My current employer (~75K ) offers many career opportunities, it's just that they're just not in a field I actually want to pursue. (I've talked to a lot of people at work and everyone agrees that there are little to no opportunities in my field within the company, and that I'll have to do something else to "tide me over" until an opportunity comes along.) So, I do feel that if I want to stay in my field then I absolutely must find a new employer who can offer me the type of opportunities I'm looking for. I could look into finding a new job closer to my expectations here in town, but the new city I want to move to is NYC, a place that I've been dreaming about living in for years. Although I have quite a bit of money to live on if I don't find a job right away, I have heard that it's difficult to find work in NY if you're not a resident. So, I'm looking into short term projects/consulting first and then I'll find something more permanent later. Of course this means that I'll be giving up a full-time, salaried position for a ~3 month project. My mother thinks I'm a little crazy to give up a good job with an increasingly lousy economy, and sometimes I too think I should just be grateful to be employed. But...??? My pregnant co-worker (who is a social work supervisor) is 4 mos. pregnant and is having a hard time with our company's insurance carrier HIP. She lives in Yonkers, NY and had to come to Manhattan to see a specialist because they discovered some kind of tumer in her uterus with the baby. She has had to make several trips down to Manhattan to take numerous tests. HIP and her doctor's offices are always giving her a run around with getting referrals and such. She had taken a few days off to go on appts. only to find out that the proper referrals were either not obtained or not faxed from her PCP or HIP. Yesterday she had an appt for an MRI in Manhattan, her husband also took off to go with her - when they got there, they said that they couldn't take her becuase of an improper referral that was sent. She was hysterical she told me and broke down in tears. She had to wait about a hour - some calls were made and they finally gave her the MRI. She has been documenting names of everyone she spoke with from everywhere since all this confusing started. She told me that she has been having cramps last night and this morning. She also said that she is thinking about consulting with a lawyer because of all of this stress. I advised her to take it easy and if she starts cramping more - to leave and go to her OB/GYN. I think that the stress is getting to her and I am hoping that it doesn't affect the baby. Do you think she could consult a lawyer? If so, what type of lawyer? When he announced his candidacy in Springfield, Ill., Obama called the bill “the most sweeping ethics reform since Watergate.” Critics from left and right, however, have called it a chilling threat to free speech. This is something to boast about? Obama’s ethics bill sounds good on paper: “strict bans on receiving gifts and meals from lobbyists; new rules to slow the revolving door between public and private sector service.” But once this lofty rhetoric hits reality, it crumbles. Just as Obama can’t define a “windfall profit,” defining “gifts” and “meals” also proves difficult. The First Amendment protects “the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” That’s what lobbying is. Under Obama’s ethics law, groups sponsoring events here in Denver have to consult a lawyer at every step. The New York Times reports: Depending on the circumstances, breakfasts are limited to bagels, rolls and croissants, while proteins like eggs are prohibited. What is more, rules differ for events that are deemed to be “widely attended” — something that has more than 25 diverse attendees but is not a ballgame or a concert. “People are trying to organize parties around conflicting and inscrutable rules,” said Jan Baran, a campaign finance expert at Wiley Rein, a Washington law firm. “It drives the lawyers crazy to give advice. We are having to decide if a group is a cover band, a string quartet or a name band.” So, for example, if farmers from Minnesota want to throw a party for lawmakers, and they serve steak and cheese quesadillas and have the band Styx provide entertainment, then any lawmaker who attends is violating the new ethics law. But if the Minnesota farmers serve only cheese quesadillas and a Styx cover band provides entertainment, Washington has been saved from corruption. Even Democrats who voted for the legislation recognize how silly the law is. Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) told The Hill, “the whole thing is ridiculous,” the result is a “hodgepodge of inconsistency” that has created “artificial restrictions which are arbitrary.” These words ought to be remembered when we consider other liberal priorities: allowing Congress to both compete in the health care market while also setting its rules and creating a “market” for carbon out of thin air. My mom was the Branch Manager for 2 locations of a local Credit Union in NY. She was consistenly honored as a great worker, brought in a lot of sales, highly regarded and honored often. She recently had to give a bad review to an employee of hers that recently was promoted, because after his promotion, he was doing a lot of questionable things. This angered him. Within a few weeks he was going over her head for little things and had to constantly be coached. He lied to my mother and told her sme of her tellers got busy talking, and forgot to clock out at 1:15pm when they were supposed to, so she moved their time back. He then roused the group and they complained to HR. The HR person took it upon herself to consult with legal, without doing a full investigation of the facts, and they terminated my mom for "manipulation of timecards". Barack Obama is a war loser, plain and simple. Maybe that's why the NYT would not publish it: The DRUDGE REPORT presents the McCain editorial in its submitted form: In January 2007, when General David Petraeus took command in Iraq, he called the situation “hard” but not “hopeless.” Today, 18 months later, violence has fallen by up to 80% to the lowest levels in four years, and Sunni and Shiite terrorists are reeling from a string of defeats. The situation now is full of hope, but considerable hard work remains to consolidate our fragile gains. Progress has been due primarily to an increase in the number of troops and a change in their strategy. I was an early advocate of the surge at a time when it had few supporters in Washington. Senator Barack Obama was an equally vocal opponent. "I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there,” he said on January 10, 2007. “In fact, I think it will do the reverse." Now Senator Obama has been forced to acknowledge that “our troops have performed brilliantly in lowering the level of violence.” But he still denies that any political progress has resulted. Perhaps he is unaware that the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has recently certified that, as one news article put it, “Iraq has met all but three of 18 original benchmarks set by Congress last year to measure security, political and economic progress.” Even more heartening has been progress that’s not measured by the benchmarks. More than 90,000 Iraqis, many of them Sunnis who once fought against the government, have signed up as Sons of Iraq to fight against the terrorists. Nor do they measure Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki’s new-found willingness to crack down on Shiite extremists in Basra and Sadr City—actions that have done much to dispel suspicions of sectarianism. The success of the surge has not changed Senator Obama’s determination to pull out all of our combat troops. All that has changed is his rationale. In a New York Times op-ed and a speech this week, he offered his “plan for Iraq” in advance of his first “fact finding” trip to that country in more than three years. It consisted of the same old proposal to pull all of our troops out within 16 months. In 2007 he wanted to withdraw because he thought the war was lost. If we had taken his advice, it would have been. Now he wants to withdraw because he thinks Iraqis no longer need our assistance. To make this point, he mangles the evidence. He makes it sound as if Prime Minister Maliki has endorsed the Obama timetable, when all he has said is that he would like a plan for the eventual withdrawal of U.S. troops at some unspecified point in the future. Senator Obama is also misleading on the Iraqi military's readiness. The Iraqi Army will be equipped and trained by the middle of next year, but this does not, as Senator Obama suggests, mean that they will then be ready to secure their country without a good deal of help. The Iraqi Air Force, for one, still lags behind, and no modern army can operate without air cover. The Iraqis are also still learning how to conduct planning, logistics, command and control, communications, and other complicated functions needed to support frontline troops. No one favors a permanent U.S. presence, as Senator Obama charges. A partial withdrawal has already occurred with the departure of five “surge” brigades, and more withdrawals can take place as the security situation improves. As we draw down in Iraq, we can beef up our presence on other battlefields, such as Afghanistan, without fear of leaving a failed state behind. I have said that I expect to welcome home most of our troops from Iraq by the end of my first term in office, in 2013. But I have also said that any draw-downs must be based on a realistic assessment of conditions on the ground, not on an artificial timetable crafted for domestic political reasons. This is the crux of my disagreement with Senator Obama. Senator Obama has said that he would consult our commanders on the ground and Iraqi leaders, but he did no such thing before releasing his “plan for Iraq.” Perhaps that’s because he doesn’t want to hear what they have to say. During the course of eight visits to Iraq, I have heard many times from our troops what Major General Jeffrey Hammond, commander of coalition forces in Baghdad, recently said: that leaving based on a timetable would be “very dangerous.” The danger is that extremists supported by Al Qaeda and Iran could stage a comeback, as they have in the past when we’ve had too few troops in Iraq. Senator Obama seems to have learned nothing from recent history. I find it ironic that he is emulating the worst mistake of the Bush administration by waving the “Mission Accomplished” banner prematurely. I am also dismayed that he never talks about winning the war—only of ending it. But if we don’t win the war, our enemies will. A triumph for the terrorists would be a disaster for us. That is something I will not allow to happen as president. Instead I will continue implementing a proven counterinsurgency strategy not only in Iraq but also in Afghanistan with the goal of creating stable, secure, self-sustaining democratic allies. They say there is a Zero % Income tax in NH .But instead I find many people opening up businesses in States like MA,TX,VA,NC,CA,NJ,NY,FL,GA,IN,KY,IL,NE ,...Etc....etc.... and where some of these states have Income taxes. Why is NH not a favorite or what is the downside or disadvantage of starting an IT Software or Consulting business like an Inc.,or a LLC. in the State of New Hampshire * I think any Employee who Consults would be attracted to the Fact that he will not have to pay any Income Taxes if his Employer/Company is in the State of New Hampshire more
