Resolved Question: Can my employer take my vacation time from me at their discretion?

I had a bereavement in the family last week. After my timesheet was filled out and submitted by me it had 24 hours worked and 16 hours for bereavement. They did not pay bereavement as they do not consider a grandparent as immediate family. So instead they took my vacation time without my permission. 32 hours of vacation time because they felt that I had not truly worked the 20 hours. After arguing they said they would credit me back the other hours worked, but they are still using vacation time. I have sick time that could have been used, but they took the vacation from me. I think this is illegal. Does anyone know if this is wrong? I am a consulting engineer in NY and this company treats most of it's workers the same way. Many people have negative sick time hours and end up having to use their vacation time to cover.  more

Resolved Question: Why do libs still claim it was Bush that lied about WMD in Iraq?

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." - President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998 "If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." - President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998 Iraq is a long way from here, but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." - Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998 "He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." - Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18,1998 "We urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." - Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin (D-MI), Tom Daschle (D-SD), John Kerry ( D - MA), and others Oct. 9,1998 "Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." - Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998 "Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." - Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999 "There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has invigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of an illicit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." - Letter to President Bus h, Signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others, December 5, 2001 "We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandated of the United Nations. "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002 "The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." - Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002 "The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002 "He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do" - Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002 "In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." - Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002 "We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Resolved Question: Ok, I posted a previous question about a dog/landlord, here is the update and I need help...?

Ok, so I posted a question about my neighbor and how she didnt take care of her dog, left it alone all the time and it woke me and my kids up throughout the night. I called the dog warden and he came and warned them to take better care of their dog. They are now doing such, but my landlord got made at me for calling the warden and gave me thirty days to vacate after yrs of living at my apartment.(We also got into a huge fight) I have tried over and over again to get legal advice, can anyone give me any numbers that I can call? I live in NY State. I have consulted an attorney, but he was very brief and its a small matter as far as he was concerned, told me to use security as last months rent and move. I have no problem with moving but I feel as if my rights were violated. Thanks to anyone that can help. I am month to month, we got into a fight because he said I shouldnt worry about how they treat their dog and he started complaining about how he makes no money off of the house. I told him that he never fixes anything either. (I broke my finger on a crappy window that fell on it and needed surgery) No, no more details except that you are supposed to pay your rent and shut-up. Hes a slumlord. I have to make arrangements for repairs and I told him Im sick of it, its not my freaking house. In the meantime, this chick was leaving her dog alone and they NEVER take it outside....Its cruel. Ok thank you for suggesting I call tenants rights. I actually called the housing authority and I was 100% within my rights to call and demand he do something about this womans dog barking. He has NO right to retaliate against me. "Landlords are prohibited from harrassing or retaliating against tenants who exercise their rights..For example, landlords may not evict tenants solely because tenants (a) make good faith complaints to a government agency about violations of any health or safety laws.. I have been instructed to call neighborhood legal services. I just wanted to post this so anyone else that needs to know this can. So, I guess other reasons are valid.  more

Resolved Question: Reckless Driving in NY?

Hi, First time on this, giving myself and my mother an Ulcer, I am 17 years old, i was with a friend driving on the Northern State, getting off at babylon and went a little faster than expected down the ramp and skidded onto the grass/curb and then as i got onto the SAG and kept driving i incidentally "cut off" a DEA agent. Now i have a court date on July 9, i got 2 tickets, one for reckless driving and one for "unreasonable speed" i think i can get the unreasonable speed one dropped but should i consult a lawyer for this? Is it necesary? and what should i expect? this is my first offense and i have no record and i can provide recomendation letters from my principal and student advisor. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED  more

Voting Question: Gov't help for career change program?

I'm a laid off professional in my early 40s. I very close to being accepted into a "career change" program in a neighboring state. The program involves a few months of intense daily training, then you usually get a job (no guarantee, but they have a very good placement record). It is far away enough to involve relocating. I am currently on partial unemployment while doing p/t consulting. The consulting would end if/when I join this program as I would not have time for it (location wouldn't matter as I do most of the consulting virtually). I had a couple of questions that I hope someone out there knows: 1) Does the Federal government offer any grants to help pay for these programs and for your living expenses during that time. 2) Would I lose my unemployment compensation? 3) Would my state offer any grants to help pay for the career training? Or would they require it to occur in the same state? My current state is NY and I have tried to contact them about this but they are very bureaucratic and overwhelmed and their website wasn't clear on it. Any thoughts would be really helpful, thanks.  more

Resolved Question: Would you do this if you were on a limited budget?

We're on a very limited budget of $4,000 and we expect 40 people to attend our wedding. We both want a beach wedding. What do you think about the idea of paying for a beach wedding package in Cocoa Beach Florida that includes decorations, set up, take down, and the minister for about $2,000 and then to rent a large house with an ocean view for one week, that all our immediate family can stay in and can all contribute towards. We would then have the food catered and buy wine and champagne in bulk. Also, we can buy flowers and my sister, who's a floral consult in NY, can help us make the arrangements. Do you think this is a good idea?  more

Voting Question: Two states tax return?

Hi My total income for 2008 was $20638 which is correct in my W2's column 1 . My Employer is NJ based consulting company . I lived and work in NJ for 3 months . Rest of 3 months I worked in NY where i lived for that duration . BUT in my W2's column 15 it shown 2 states , NY & NJ . NY wadges says 20638 NJ wadges says 7500 . I asked my employer that I only earned TOTAL $20638 so why in state its 20638 + 7500 then he told me that for NY we have to put total income we earned even out of state . Even If I had NJ income it should included in total wadges column 1 which will come around $20638 + 7500 ~ 28k. Any suggestions , that how I can file it .  more

Voting Question: NEED CUSTODY/DIVORCE HELP IN NY ASAP!!!!!?

My HB has been patronizing casual encounters section on Craigslist, Adultfriendfinder and is now contacting women for "erotic NSA adult fun". He has emailed escort services. I kicked him out 2 weeks ago and I am filing for divorce. HW, I am so scared for my children. He has been searching sites during visitation times. All he cares about is hooking up with someone. He is online for hours per day searching for sex. He refuses to discuss any important matters and becomes verbally abusive to me during exchanges in front of the kids. He is clearly out of control. I want to protect the kids from him and I want Full custody. I have proof of his activities via keylogger reports. However, I believe these are inadmissable in court. How the h*** do I prove he is unfit without these reports?????? Its so unfair!! I dont care about money, or any property. I just want my kids. What can I do??? Anything? Anyone?? I am so desperate for some help about this subject. I consulted with a lawyer and she said that unfortunately, the records cant be brought up b/c I obtained the info via keylogger. I want to cry. Has anyone else been thru this? What can I do???? I am in NY.  more

Resolved Question: How can I become a one-time wedding officiant in NY?

My friend would like me to conduct his wedding ceremony in Suffolk County (NY) in 6 weeks. They do not want a religious ceremony. We have called local, county, and state offices which have provided vague information about procedure, repeatedly suggesting that they consult an attorney. So, without becoming a "Universal Life Church" minister, how can I legally conduct a wedding in Suffolk County, NY?  more

Resolved Question: I'm not getting paid overtime legal or illegal?

I currently work for a NY based IT consulting company and I'm placed at a client in NJ. I've worked here for almost 3 years and I only get my normal hourly wage for hours worked over 40. Unlike others that work for my consulting company, I'm actually an employee with them not a 10-99, I have my W-2. I believe their reasoning is that I'm a consultant so I don't get paid extra for working over 40. Is this correct? If not, how should I go about rectifying the situation?  more

Voting Question: If this college on line has this statement ? ?

I am starting to study for a new career. Since my work hours end at 730pm and by the time I get home to study it will be 9pm. I figured on line college is my best option. I will go for my BS in psychology which will take 4.5 years to complete. I am 40 years old. If I am planning to continue for my doctorine and get a license in the state of NY to have my own counseling practice and have to take the test in NY State the college said the following... Is taking this on line degree program a waste since it is not accredited? However, Walden University’s M.S. in Mental Health Counseling is not accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), which is a requirement for licensure in some states. Because no graduate program can guarantee licensure upon graduation, we encourage students to consult the appropriate agency to determine specific requirements. Thank you. But why are these on line colleges giving out degrees? When it is time to take your test the degree is worthless?  more

Resolved Question: Interested in college at 40 years old? ?

I only went to college in 1987 for 6 months for marketing then took a few courses in meeting mgnt in 1990. I have no degree. I even have to get ahold of my transcripts from High School which is a pain cause the school is closed. I been in the travel consulting business and I think I had a career insight today. (The travel industry is going down) and I been doing this for 15 years now and is it late for a change? I was thinking of legal word processing and in NY city there is still a high demand for this. But today when I went to see a therapist for a problem I have and I didnt like how this therapist handled what I was telling him. I thought to myself why didnt I ever think about becoming a therapist. I would listen to people. I would be very helpful and not treat anyone with negativity which I got this morning. I am looking at a college that I can get my BA in 2 years and 8 months for human services but would I need a PH D if I wanted my own office in the long run? I wouldnt want to prescribe medication which I think a psychiatrist does for conditions. Is 40 late in life to persue this career or should I just stick with a business career. When I read over the courses for the BA in professional studies this college works with your work schedule. What would you suggest? Thank you. LOL I guess it is never late  more

Resolved Question: credit card increased percentage rate a LOT?

my aunt has had the same credit card for years and has always paid on time and more than the minimum amount. recently, the increased the % rate almost by 10%!!! She called them and wrote letters but they don't care. She cannot afford it now. so she is thinking about NOT paying it at ALL now because it's really pointless. She is worried that she will get her paycheck taken away but I said that cannot happen unless it's a federal govt loan. She is consulting a lawyer but in the meantime what do you think? I live in NY I don't know if that is true.. I had a credit card 2 years ago that I have not paid (percentage went up, couldnt afford payment) and they still bug me but nothing has happened. if she had the money to pay it off, don't you think she would have? She was paying twice the minimum amount every month, but they said it STILL wasnt enough. Now she will have to choose between paying her credit card or eating  more

Voting Question: If I keep my apartment here in NY, and rent a 2nd apartment in CA, does it qualify for a tax deduction?

I now live in NY and got a 1 year IT project in CA through a staffing company. They said it might continue beyond 1 year. I don't want to relocate just for a year. 1. If I keep my apartment here in NY, and rent a 2nd apartment in CA, does it qualify for a deduction? 2. Is apartment rents considered lodging expense that I can deduct? What about furniture rental? for example, instead of staying in a hotel, can I rent an apt and take that as a lodging deductible? 3. Does it matter if I work as W2 or 1099 with my staffing company? Just to clarify - My intention is to return to my primary apartment in NY in 1 year. It's a consulting gig with the staffing company's clients in CA. Instead of relocating to CA and relocating back to NY, I want to travel, and keep my NC apt.  more

Resolved Question: Should I choose to be taxed as a corporation or sole proprietor?

I just formed an LLC in NY. The LLC will act basically as a holding/consulting company for various internet start-ups that I will be making over the next couple years. Now I have the option of how I want to be taxed. I don't plan to be making any/very little money in the next 6-10months. I think for the ease of tax filing I should just be a sole proprietor and then I can change it to a corporation in the future. Is that a good idea?  more

Resolved Question: Should I leave a salaried position for a better opportunity in a new city across the country?

My current employer (~75K ) offers many career opportunities, it's just that they're just not in a field I actually want to pursue. (I've talked to a lot of people at work and everyone agrees that there are little to no opportunities in my field within the company, and that I'll have to do something else to "tide me over" until an opportunity comes along.) So, I do feel that if I want to stay in my field then I absolutely must find a new employer who can offer me the type of opportunities I'm looking for. I could look into finding a new job closer to my expectations here in town, but the new city I want to move to is NYC, a place that I've been dreaming about living in for years. Although I have quite a bit of money to live on if I don't find a job right away, I have heard that it's difficult to find work in NY if you're not a resident. So, I'm looking into short term projects/consulting first and then I'll find something more permanent later. Of course this means that I'll be giving up a full-time, salaried position for a ~3 month project. My mother thinks I'm a little crazy to give up a good job with an increasingly lousy economy, and sometimes I too think I should just be grateful to be employed. But...??? Should I stay with my current employer, and learn to live with a job that probably won't keep me happy? Should I forget about NY and look for a more desirable position here in my town/state? Or, should I try to live out my dream to live/work in NYC? (Age 28)  more

Resolved Question: When the NY Times notices that Obama is Lying isn't that Really saying something?

Apparently Obama's lying is so blatant even the NY Times can't choke it down. In a front-page story today, the Times acknowledges that In all, Mr. Obama has released at least five commercials that have been criticized as misleading or untruthful against Mr. McCain’s positions in the past two weeks. Now should the Times take the next step and admit that the "lies" Obama's campaign alleges John McCain has told are no such thing? Sen. Obama did vote to extend HIV-related sex education to kindergarten; he did vote against requiring doctors in Illinois to end the practice of allowing infants to die after surviving abortions; he did consult with Franklin Raines--disgraced former head of Fannie Mae--regarding mortgage and economic policy. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/26/us/politics/26ads.html?_r=2&pagewanted=all&oref=slogin&oref=slogin  more

Voting Question: My pregnant co-worker?

My pregnant co-worker (who is a social work supervisor) is 4 mos. pregnant and is having a hard time with our company's insurance carrier HIP. She lives in Yonkers, NY and had to come to Manhattan to see a specialist because they discovered some kind of tumer in her uterus with the baby. She has had to make several trips down to Manhattan to take numerous tests. HIP and her doctor's offices are always giving her a run around with getting referrals and such. She had taken a few days off to go on appts. only to find out that the proper referrals were either not obtained or not faxed from her PCP or HIP. Yesterday she had an appt for an MRI in Manhattan, her husband also took off to go with her - when they got there, they said that they couldn't take her becuase of an improper referral that was sent. She was hysterical she told me and broke down in tears. She had to wait about a hour - some calls were made and they finally gave her the MRI. She has been documenting names of everyone she spoke with from everywhere since all this confusing started. She told me that she has been having cramps last night and this morning. She also said that she is thinking about consulting with a lawyer because of all of this stress. I advised her to take it easy and if she starts cramping more - to leave and go to her OB/GYN. I think that the stress is getting to her and I am hoping that it doesn't affect the baby. Do you think she could consult a lawyer? If so, what type of lawyer? Thanks.  more

Resolved Question: What is it about Obama that make people want to vote for him?

Why does Obama's supporters claim he is ready to lead the country? What has he done to back up this statement? Here is his claim to fame from his voting record. One of Barack Obama’s only legislative accomplishments in the U.S. Senate is the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act, which passed in September 2007. When he announced his candidacy in Springfield, Ill., Obama called the bill “the most sweeping ethics reform since Watergate.” Critics from left and right, however, have called it a chilling threat to free speech. This is something to boast about? Obama’s ethics bill sounds good on paper: “strict bans on receiving gifts and meals from lobbyists; new rules to slow the revolving door between public and private sector service.” But once this lofty rhetoric hits reality, it crumbles. Just as Obama can’t define a “windfall profit,” defining “gifts” and “meals” also proves difficult. The First Amendment protects “the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” That’s what lobbying is. Under Obama’s ethics law, groups sponsoring events here in Denver have to consult a lawyer at every step. The New York Times reports: Depending on the circumstances, breakfasts are limited to bagels, rolls and croissants, while proteins like eggs are prohibited. What is more, rules differ for events that are deemed to be “widely attended” — something that has more than 25 diverse attendees but is not a ballgame or a concert. “People are trying to organize parties around conflicting and inscrutable rules,” said Jan Baran, a campaign finance expert at Wiley Rein, a Washington law firm. “It drives the lawyers crazy to give advice. We are having to decide if a group is a cover band, a string quartet or a name band.” So, for example, if farmers from Minnesota want to throw a party for lawmakers, and they serve steak and cheese quesadillas and have the band Styx provide entertainment, then any lawmaker who attends is violating the new ethics law. But if the Minnesota farmers serve only cheese quesadillas and a Styx cover band provides entertainment, Washington has been saved from corruption. Even Democrats who voted for the legislation recognize how silly the law is. Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) told The Hill, “the whole thing is ridiculous,” the result is a “hodgepodge of inconsistency” that has created “artificial restrictions which are arbitrary.” These words ought to be remembered when we consider other liberal priorities: allowing Congress to both compete in the health care market while also setting its rules and creating a “market” for carbon out of thin air. Denver is awash in special-interest money this week. The Denver Post reports that Obama’s big-money donors are being offered premier seats to his acceptance speech at Invesco Field. Top fundraisers for the “Obama Victory Fund” were offered club-level seats through the end of Monday for $1,000 apiece. … The Obama campaign and its partners at the Democratic National Convention Committee have 8,300 club-level seats. If all were purchased, it could mean a cash infusion of $8.3 million. Kind of reminds you of the book "1984". We are all equal, but some are more equal than others. As far as endig tax cuts for the super rich, as 1 answer stated...do we not live in a Capitalistic society? If "big business" is prompted to pay more in taxes, who do you think will pay this? Do you honestly think that these business, mainly oil companies, will pay this tax out of their profits, or do you think they will pass the burden onto those who are buying the gas? So, please, you do need to go on...  more

Resolved Question: On WMD's why do Republicans always get blamed when the Democrats are quoted saying this?

And some of these quotes were made long before Bush was President. Democrats and wmd’s United States weapons inspector Charles Duelfer released his extensive report last week, and confirmed that Saddam Hussein had shut down Iraq's chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons programs following the first Iraq war in 1991. His report also showed that Saddam had no stockpiles of WMDs after that year. With that said, it is interesting to look back at how the Democrats, like Bush, lied to the American public, and inflated Saddam's supposed threat to our national security. The mendacity was undoubtedly universal. Here are a few of the choice quotes.) "One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." - President Bill Clinton, February 4, 1998 "If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. Resolved Question: Is It True That The American People Were Lied To In Order To Invade Iraq?

United States weapons inspector Charles Duelfer released his extensive report last week, and confirmed that Saddam Hussein had shut down Iraq's chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons programs following the first Iraq war in 1991. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." - President Bill Clinton, February 17, 1998 "We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction." - Madeline Albright, February 1, 1998 "He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." - Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, February 18, 1998 "[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." Letter to President Clinton. - (D) Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, others, October 9, 1998 "Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." - Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), December 16, 1998 "Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." - Madeline Albright, Clinton's Secretary of State, November 10, 1999 "We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), October 10, 2002 "In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." - Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), October 3, 2002 "I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), October 9, 2002 "There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), October 10, 2002 "We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), December 8, 2002 "Every day Saddam remains in power with chemical weapons, biological weapons, and the development of nuclear weapons is a day of danger for the United States." -Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) September 4, 2002 "If we wait for the [Iraq] danger to become clear, it could be too late." -Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del) September 4, 2002 "Iraq both poses a continuing threat to the national security of the United States and international peace and security in the Persian Gulf region and remains in material and unacceptable breach of its international obligations by, among other things, continuing to possess and develop a significant chemical and biological weapons capability, actively seeking a nuclear weapons capability, and supporting and harboring terrorist organizations." -Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) February 5, 2003 "Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), January 23. 2003 Note 1998 time line  more

Resolved Question: Did the Democrats really say this on the question of wmd's?

United States weapons inspector Charles Duelfer released his extensive report last week, and confirmed that Saddam Hussein had shut down Iraq's chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons programs following the first Iraq war in 1991. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them." - Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), September 19, 2002 "We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." - Al Gore, September 23, 2002 "Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." - Al Gore, September 23, 2002 "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." - Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), September 27, 2002 "The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Voting Question: Wrongful Termination - Defamation - Does my mom have a case?

My mom was the Branch Manager for 2 locations of a local Credit Union in NY. She was consistenly honored as a great worker, brought in a lot of sales, highly regarded and honored often. She recently had to give a bad review to an employee of hers that recently was promoted, because after his promotion, he was doing a lot of questionable things. This angered him. Within a few weeks he was going over her head for little things and had to constantly be coached. He lied to my mother and told her sme of her tellers got busy talking, and forgot to clock out at 1:15pm when they were supposed to, so she moved their time back. He then roused the group and they complained to HR. The HR person took it upon herself to consult with legal, without doing a full investigation of the facts, and they terminated my mom for "manipulation of timecards". When they walked her out, they told her she was exemplary, and they were sorry to have to do it.....her managers fought for her, but HR would not budge.  more

Resolved Question: Is the reason the liberal biased NY Times refused to print McCains editorial because Obama is a 'War Loser'?

Barack Obama is a war loser, plain and simple. Maybe that's why the NYT would not publish it: The DRUDGE REPORT presents the McCain editorial in its submitted form: In January 2007, when General David Petraeus took command in Iraq, he called the situation “hard” but not “hopeless.” Today, 18 months later, violence has fallen by up to 80% to the lowest levels in four years, and Sunni and Shiite terrorists are reeling from a string of defeats. The situation now is full of hope, but considerable hard work remains to consolidate our fragile gains. Progress has been due primarily to an increase in the number of troops and a change in their strategy. I was an early advocate of the surge at a time when it had few supporters in Washington. Senator Barack Obama was an equally vocal opponent. "I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there,” he said on January 10, 2007. “In fact, I think it will do the reverse." Now Senator Obama has been forced to acknowledge that “our troops have performed brilliantly in lowering the level of violence.” But he still denies that any political progress has resulted. Perhaps he is unaware that the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has recently certified that, as one news article put it, “Iraq has met all but three of 18 original benchmarks set by Congress last year to measure security, political and economic progress.” Even more heartening has been progress that’s not measured by the benchmarks. More than 90,000 Iraqis, many of them Sunnis who once fought against the government, have signed up as Sons of Iraq to fight against the terrorists. Nor do they measure Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki’s new-found willingness to crack down on Shiite extremists in Basra and Sadr City—actions that have done much to dispel suspicions of sectarianism. The success of the surge has not changed Senator Obama’s determination to pull out all of our combat troops. All that has changed is his rationale. In a New York Times op-ed and a speech this week, he offered his “plan for Iraq” in advance of his first “fact finding” trip to that country in more than three years. It consisted of the same old proposal to pull all of our troops out within 16 months. In 2007 he wanted to withdraw because he thought the war was lost. If we had taken his advice, it would have been. Now he wants to withdraw because he thinks Iraqis no longer need our assistance. To make this point, he mangles the evidence. He makes it sound as if Prime Minister Maliki has endorsed the Obama timetable, when all he has said is that he would like a plan for the eventual withdrawal of U.S. troops at some unspecified point in the future. Senator Obama is also misleading on the Iraqi military's readiness. The Iraqi Army will be equipped and trained by the middle of next year, but this does not, as Senator Obama suggests, mean that they will then be ready to secure their country without a good deal of help. The Iraqi Air Force, for one, still lags behind, and no modern army can operate without air cover. The Iraqis are also still learning how to conduct planning, logistics, command and control, communications, and other complicated functions needed to support frontline troops. No one favors a permanent U.S. presence, as Senator Obama charges. A partial withdrawal has already occurred with the departure of five “surge” brigades, and more withdrawals can take place as the security situation improves. As we draw down in Iraq, we can beef up our presence on other battlefields, such as Afghanistan, without fear of leaving a failed state behind. I have said that I expect to welcome home most of our troops from Iraq by the end of my first term in office, in 2013. But I have also said that any draw-downs must be based on a realistic assessment of conditions on the ground, not on an artificial timetable crafted for domestic political reasons. This is the crux of my disagreement with Senator Obama. Senator Obama has said that he would consult our commanders on the ground and Iraqi leaders, but he did no such thing before releasing his “plan for Iraq.” Perhaps that’s because he doesn’t want to hear what they have to say. During the course of eight visits to Iraq, I have heard many times from our troops what Major General Jeffrey Hammond, commander of coalition forces in Baghdad, recently said: that leaving based on a timetable would be “very dangerous.” The danger is that extremists supported by Al Qaeda and Iran could stage a comeback, as they have in the past when we’ve had too few troops in Iraq. Senator Obama seems to have learned nothing from recent history. I find it ironic that he is emulating the worst mistake of the Bush administration by waving the “Mission Accomplished” banner prematurely. I am also dismayed that he never talks about winning the war—only of ending it. But if we don’t win the war, our enemies will. A triumph for the terrorists would be a disaster for us. That is something I will not allow to happen as president. Instead I will continue implementing a proven counterinsurgency strategy not only in Iraq but also in Afghanistan with the goal of creating stable, secure, self-sustaining democratic allies. UPDATE: Apparently, they don't have any problem publishing pro-Hamas editorials, though.  more

Resolved Question: Why don't they have many IT Software or Consulting Companies or Businesses in the State of New Hampshire ?

They say there is a Zero % Income tax in NH .But instead I find many people opening up businesses in States like MA,TX,VA,NC,CA,NJ,NY,FL,GA,IN,KY,IL,NE ,...Etc....etc.... and where some of these states have Income taxes. Why is NH not a favorite or what is the downside or disadvantage of starting an IT Software or Consulting business like an Inc.,or a LLC. in the State of New Hampshire * I think any Employee who Consults would be attracted to the Fact that he will not have to pay any Income Taxes if his Employer/Company is in the State of New Hampshire  more
